How old do I have to be to become a scout? Which Sections do you run?

To be a scout you need to be between 6 and 18 years old. At the 16th City of Westminster, we run four sections:

How much does it cost to be Scout?

Our group charges £10 per month to be a member (so £120 per year). This fee covers our evening programme and badges, along with the fees we pay to The Scout Association for insurance and other services. When you join the group you will need to pay a £20 joining fee to cover your necker, woggle, and various badges.

If cost is a barrier to scouting, please speak to us about the District Inclusion Fund. This is part of our District’s commitment to ensure that cost does not prevent a Young Person from benefitting from all that scouting has to offer.

Why do scouts wear a uniform?

Since we were founded the Scouts have been a uniformed organisation. It is expected that all scouts own and wear their uniform for evening meetings and trips. Unlike other youth groups, the uniform is a fundamental part of who we are, you can be seen the uniform at many royal events and ceremonies we take part in. The Scout uniform is protected by law, so it is illegal to wear the uniform if you are not a scout (except for entertainment provided this does not bring the scouts into disrepute). Your monthly fees pay for badges which go on your uniform.

To buy a scout uniform or blouse, we recommend looking at the Scout Shop online. We have a few second-hand uniforms in stock, we ask that you return these once you change uniforms or leave the scout group.

What badges can Scouts earn?

There are lots of exciting badges you can earn in Scouting, from Sailing to Chef, Pioneer to Librarian, and many more! The Scout Association has all the badges listed on their badges information page.
